Above is the makeup look I chose for my dancer in my project proposal, with the wash of white paint highlighting the eyes for an ethereal look. The white paint coats the eye lashes and eye brows to soften the features, giving a feminine but editorial look. The rest of the face was kept natural and neutral to accentuate the brightly coloured power paint, emphasising the ultimate freedom from discrimination and hate. However after I had finalised the dancer's styling with my designer, Zhane, I decided this makeup was not strong enough to complement the structured, empowering silhouette. I also felt the textured brush strokes would clash with the fluffy feathers and shiny leather of the styling, as creating too many textures can look messy and take the impact away of each aspect.
There are going to be many wide shots of the dancer where her face will be far away from the camera, meaning the makeup look needs to be strong enough to translate from a distance. This scene will be integrated with the third scene of She in her white styling so I want them to complement each other. She's makeup look is very soft and feminine to contrast with the strong, structured styling; her eye lashes and eye brows are covered in white, together with the rest of her face highlighted in white with a dewy finish.

Model, Du Juan, wore this snow queen inspired makeup look for a Vogue China editorial, photographed by Lachlan Bailey. Her skin looks flawless and even, with a matte finish, giving her a strong, hard exterior; whereas I think a dewy finish would soften the look and make it more feminine. The strip of white down her nose and onto her lips is reminiscent of war paint, which would mirror her grown strength to fight the battle of discrimination and hate. The war paint represents unity; the coming together of people to put a stop to hate. There are no harsh lines, giving the strong look a feminine, innocent edge. I will apply white to the model's eye brows to give a more editorial and inhuman look, portraying her previous feeling of social ostracism. My model will wear one white eye contact as this is the only aspect kept the same in every look in my fashion film; it represents how discrimination will always haunt you, emphasising the importance to banish it for good. White eye shadow has been blended on the eye lid and along to lower lash line, emphasising her innocence and purity by giving her bright eyes. To emphasise this further I will add white feathery fake eye lashes to add a feminine touch so the eyes stand out to reach the camera; however I will keep them a natural length as the emphasis will be on the styling and body movement. I will contour the cheek bones, jawline and nose with a natural grey toned powder to make her features look more structured in the film, giving her a stronger look.
