Updating Dancer's Hair Design

(Conrad, 2015).
In my project proposal I initially planned for my dancer a classic flowing dress, with a long, light weight skirt and beautifully embroidered top; however when speaking to Sebastiane we agreed this could be seen as cliche so I decided to design the dress myself to make it more editorial and to represent strength and confidence. This very relaxed, loose hair style with a light texture would no longer be suitable as the length would cover detail in the neckline and feathered shoulder pads. I still want the hair to reflect liberation; however it needs to show case the styling whilst also projecting strength.

(Schafer, 2017).
I have chosen a sleek, high ponytail to represent strength and power as its tight and slick style gives a sharp silhouette and pulls at her face to emphasise her defined features. All the hair will be smoothed off the face, reflecting her new unashamed confidence to reveal her unedited self. I will use faux white leather, mirroring the leather on the dress, to create a structured hair band to join the straightened ponytail to the gelled hair, giving a strong transition. The graphic hair line, with sharp, defined edges, represents her new rebellious edge since discovering life with no limitations.

My model's hair is quite thin and just longer than shoulder length, so there is a danger of it looking weak and lifeless. I will experiment with using hair stencils and white paint or hairspray to create a graphic hair line design. The styling is very detailed, with different textures so I am concerned a patterned hair line will clash; however if it does I could add white brush strokes into the hair line for a more subtle wash of white.
