Sharon's Feedback Session

I just had a meeting with Sharon who really opened up my eyes to the possibilities of collaborations. I have always been nervous to collaborate with others as I like to be in full control to guarantee I am happy with the result; however I need to learn how to work with and direct a team as, otherwise, I am just creating more work for myself and won't be able to focus on each aspect of my film with great detail. Styling has never been my strong point and I much prefer designing makeup looks and finding locations etc., so Sharon suggested I collaborated with a stylist so they could look at my design concept and then source and style the fashion element. I am concerned that I will end up working with someone who either isn't as passionate or as hard working as me; I don't want them to hinder my work instead of improve it.

I am already collaborating with film student, Harrison, who is going to film and help edit my film and I am happy with how we are working together. I researched his previous work before contacting him to make sure his film style and technical ability was at a high standard. I am determined to find a stylist I can trust, either by contacting their teacher or them individually, to enhance my work.

Sharon also highlighted the importance of primary research. When designing makeup and hair looks I have previously been looking at other artists' work; however instead of skimming the surface by only looking at work already created I should look at primary imagery from Victorian mental asylums to create a unique and raw image. She suggested looking at Wellcomecollection.com for possible exhibitions, HistoryBuff.com for real asylum stories and Outsider Art on FaceBook for further inspiration.
