I painted a bunch of cocktail sticks with black acrylic paint. The pointy edges made them easy to stick into the hair and also gave a sharp, aggressive look protruding out from the tight hair knots.
I saturated the hair in hair oil to give it a smooth, slick finish, then tied it up on four even sections to create small buns. I used small clear elastics I bought from Amazon; however when I pulled at them to tighten the hair they snapped very easily. I continued to use them but I didn't like how cautious I had to be, so I will look for an alternative for my next practice. The sectioning looks sharp but the hair round the buns doesn't look tight enough so I will need to practice pulling it tighter and securing it down with more sturdy elastics. I can see some small fly away hairs so I will use gel as a finishing touch to eliminate these for a strong, crisp silhouette. The third bun from the top sticks out more prominently than the rest, giving a more confident silhouette as opposed to the squashed looking top two buns; I will therefore make each bun smaller in width to give them more height. The black sticks will look more prominent against my model's contrasting blonde hair to achieve a strong, barbed wire effect.
