When I received this draft for the flashback scene I felt elated and relieved because Dan had finally understood the frantic, chaotic sound I had envisioned. There were a variety of harsh beats, soft beats and electrical noises throughout, giving a frantic feel and there were no constant beats, giving it an unstructured, chaotic feel. He created different combinations of beats throughout to give an unpredictable and erratic to reflect She's confusion and panic, with her emotions changing with every nightmare she re-lives. The soft, eery whispers contrast with the energetic, disturbing music to emphasise the traumatic flashbacks. The whispers used reflect the overwhelming voices in your head when analysing a situation, but also reflect society's constant desire to give their negative opinions that then circle in the victims' head. I emailed Dan my thoughts on the new draft to let him know how happy I was; however I also mentioned that I wanted a different clip from the whispers I sent him for the third whispering section because it was the same as the second section of whispers which make it sound too structured and unrealistic.

Powder Paint Scene
I was extremely happy with the previous draft of the powder paint scene music so I only asked him to change little aspects, rather than altering the whole track like with the flashback music. I asked him to slow down the swooshing noises at the beginning and to spread them out because the powder paint will be filmed in slow motion and I wanted the swooshing noises to mirror the initial introduction of paint. He has spread them out but I think the second and third swoosh should be put closer together for a build up to the start of the track. I will have to film the powder paint to see exactly how it will look so I think I will film this scene and then I can ask Dan to alter the music to fit the movement. Syncing the powder paint movement with the music will be challenging and limiting so I will contact Dan after filming.
I asked Dan to incorporate another tune into this music because I felt like the same tune was used for too long, making it become repetitive and tedious. He gave me two options that he created; however the second option was not suitable as he layered a constant drone to the track which was too slow and calming, not adding the energy I had hoped. The first option was more suitable as he added an upbeat alternative tune to layer over the section I found repetitive, adding a new twist to build the energy. Dan incorporated the new tune into the last section in the music which ensured the music continued its energy and strength and made the music more harmonious. However I am unsure on the use of bells for this new tune because they don't reflect the strength of She's grown confidence and they remind me of church bells which is distracting. I will therefore suggest he experiments with different sounded beats for this new tune.
In the previous draft the ending was more strong and sudden to reflect She's shock at seeing an asylum/societal figure to silence; however after combining the new bells track with the original he has made the ending sound more gradual. I will ask him to add this in my email.

Hi Dan,
The flashback scene is sounding great! I love how there is a variety of beats throughout to give an chaotic, unstructured sound. I also love the contrast between the upbeat, frantic music and the soft, haunting whispers. I have noticed that you've used the same whispering clip for the second and third whispers so could you please use another clip for maybe the third whispers? But apart from that I am really happy with it!
I also really like the new beats added to the first powder paint option. I like their tune and that you have incorporated them into the final section of music; however maybe you could experiment with using different sounding beats other than bells to give a stronger sound? So keep it all exactly the same but just alter the beat sounds, if that makes sense? Could you also please move the second and third swoosh noises at the beginning slightly closer together to build up to the track. The last thing is could you please add a more sudden ending as I have choreographed for this to quickly turn to silence, so maybe a slight crescendo to a strong beat?
I would ideally like to create the final storyboard next Thursday so if you could make these final changes by the end of the weekend then that will give Tony a few days to combine the whole track together.
Thanks so much!
Becky

I emailed Tony to inform him that I was ready for him to start combining the music together as I was receiving the final drafts from Dan this week. I have previously given him the music chart I inserted into my blog so I will email him or give him the clips of music to be combined together on a memory stick.
